Browsed passed this image on the computer, and was struck by how much this signaled a bygone era. Double monk shoes that were all the rage 5-10 years ago, here my pair from Vass on the U last in Antique Cognac which I loved dearly, but had to sell since I weighed about 20 kilos less at that time and they became too cramped when I gained weight.
Today I don’t have any double monks left anymore, all the three I’ve had have been sold because of fit issues. If I am ever down in Budapest and have the opportunity to make a modified U last for my feet, I will order a pair exactly the same as these, still think they are extremely beautiful. However, I will probably polish them up more, today I’m more fond of a proper spit shine than I was at the time.
