The saga of one of the classic British sole manufacturers seems to be all. The owners of Itshide, perhaps most famous for their Commando rubber soles, has gone into liquidation, and all things points to this being the end for the over 100 years old Northampton-based company.
A. Marchesan is Scandinavia’s most renowned vintage menswear store, and after a long time in the making they now finally launched their online store, making their impressively well curated selection of vintage goods available worldwide. A bunch of great vintage shoes are part of the inventory.
One of the classic British online stores for quality men’s shoes is back in business. Two year’s ago they closed to store and sold of all the stock. One thought that was it. But now Pediwear has re-opened, with quite a large stock from several brands like Carlos Santos, Carmina, Tricker’s, Sanders and so on.
Three years ago the Alfred Sargent brand went into liquidation, and from that the Paul Sargent brand emerged with the same factory, models, lasts and so on. Aim was to finally give a Sargent brand the attention it deserved, but sadly, things has not gone as planned. Now the factory in Rushden, Northamptonshire, is once again closed, and all workers have been laid off.
The Japanese shoe shine bar chain and shoe care brand Brift H, founded by the first world champion of shoe shining Yuya Hasegawa, is now part of the Japanese high-end fashion giant United Arrows. A great journey that started with Yuya being a street shoe shiner, and a testament to the importance the shoe shine industry has, not least in Japan.

Wildsmith was one of the classic British quality men’s shoe brands, started already in 1847, but it was a long time since it had a prime. The original company was liquidated in the early 2000’s, and after two unsuccessful resurrections it’s now time for the third attempt.
There’s been a lot of fusions between dress shoes and soft sneakers done through the years. Now Santoni has launched a new range called Easy that sort of manage to to do it to the extreme, with the most traditional designs turned into lightweight slip-on shoes with super soft soles.
The American heritage footwear company Red Wing reintroduces one of it’s most requested models – the slightly dressier Beckman boot. It’s made with a Gro-cord half rubber sole, and news is that they’ve switched from the often criticised, hard to break-in Featherstone leather to the softer Excalibur.
It’s not often that men’s footwear giant Allen Edmonds introduce new ranges of welted shoes, but this week the launched the new top line Reserve. Better leathers, a new last and some hand finishing details for this new American-made range which consists of four new models in different leather options.
The Swedish brand Myrqvist who offer Portugese-made welted footwear in the lower price segment has announced its opening of their first international store, on the famous shoe and menswear location Jermyn Street in London. The two-storey 100 square meters space will open the doors later this summer.
