There’s been many thousands of iterations of the plain toe derby made throughout the years, and of these I’ve seen hundreds. A lot of lovely ones of course. But question is if this one here by last year’s shoemaking world champion Ken Hishinuma of Khish the Work isn’t the one to rule them all, in my book.

It always take a while before I’m finished with the huge article coverage of all the 25 contest shoes of the shoemaking world champs displayed at the super trunk this past Saturday in London, so here’s a quick picture special showcasing the top three. The Japanese not only excel when it comes to shoemaking, they are also leading the way when it comes to informative Youtube channels on the topic. One channel that everyone who are interested in making shoes by hand and all it involves should follow is Crazy About Shoes, run by Ken Hishinuma of the bespoke shoe brand Khish the Work.
Last month samples from eight different bespoke shoemakers were gathered at Gallery Quadro in central Tokyo, in ambition to open up for interest from a new group of people. Shoegazing visited the reception, and talked with a few of the shoemakers exhibiting: Nayuta Takahashi and Kiyo Uda who also run Tweed & Mouth, and Ken Hishinuma of Khish the Work.
