The New York Super Trunk Show was back for its second iteration the past weekend, with another great shoe day in the middle of Manhattan. 1,200 visitors coming to check out a bunch of shoe and menswear exhibitors from around the world, follow the U.S. shoe shining champs and other shoe happenings, and just have a good time. Substantial report from the day with lots of photos.
They are seen as the most well-made and exclusive workwear boots in the world, with a current waiting time of six years. The mythical Japanese bootmaker Show Goto only makes twelve pairs of his handmade White Kloud boots a year, plus limited runs of the more basic Jack & White Bros boots. Shoegazing has visited him.

The London Super Trunk Show last weekend was another brilliant shoe day. New visitor record of over 1,300 people coming to browse the men’s shoe and menswear exhibitors from around the world and follow the three world championships contests: in shoe shining, shoe patina and shoemaking. One of the oldest remaining shoe and bootmakers in the US are going for a renaissance under new ownership. Shoegazing has visited their store and workshop on central Manhattan, and got a glimpse into the high ambitions of the company to create a new American powerhouse for custom made shoes and boots.
During the pandemic few people wore or ordered bespoke shoes – so what to do as a bespoke shoemaker? In Hiro Yanagimachi’s workshop in Tokyo, they spent the calm period to develop a completely new product for the new world: the hand welted LS1 sneaker. Built to merge the best from handmade dress shoes and casual sneakers – which has since been a smashing success.
