My latest new pair is a bespoke seamless faux adelaide in a lovely medium brown suede, made by Catella Shoemaker. Shoes made to the absolute highest level possible. In this article there’s loads of photos as well as films of both the making and the final pair.
You know the drill by now. Since it always takes some time for me to finish the huge articles covering all contest shoes of the world champs, we have a picture special showing the top three that were appointed at the London super trunk the past weekend. Winner this year was Ken Kataoka, runner up Twinkima.G and 3rd Dmitry Avdyukhov.
My latest new pair is these lovely bespoke wholecuts made in a nubuck alligator, from the Italian maker Calzoleria Carlino. It’s my kind of exotic shoe, relatively toned down and versatile. Here’s a bunch of photos of the pair. May serve as inspiration, since the company currently run their annual campaign where you can order MTO or bespoke (also remotely) in alligator or crocodile leather at no upcharge compared to standard calf.

Winner this year was Louis Lampertsdörfer, with Ken Kataoka second and Ken Hishinuma 3rd.
My latest pair are these Alden split toe derbies made back in 1977, still unused in their original box. It was part of their Foot Balance range made on the orthotic TruBalance last with a very long heel stiffener, which fits me really well. Here’s a closer look with lots of photos of this lovely pair.

Recently I received a new pair from the Chinese maker Acme Shoemaker, a pair of MTM / semi bespoke casual split toe derby made in a truly amazing camel leather. It has a lovely natural grain character and on top of that it’s very hard wearing, making it work perfect for a chunkier more heavy shoe that will likely be worn a bit harder.

Usually exotics aren’t really my thing, but this exquisite vintage lizard leather in a subtle dark brown really spoke to me. The pair is made by the Italian shoemaker Calzoleria Carlino, who currently runs a campaign with no upcharge on orders of lizard leather for their MTO, MTM or bespoke.
This Saturday in Tokyo at one of the world’s largest deparment store’s – Isetan Shinjuku – the top three shoes from the this year’s World Championships of Shoemaking were on display, me, third placed Louis Lampertsdörfer and second placed Victor Vulpe were there to talk to visitors about the shoes and the contest, and the latter held a shoemaking masterclass. I’m currently in Japan, and one of the highlights this far was picking up my fourth pair from the bespoke shoemaker Eiji Murata, alias Main d’Or. An exquisite pair of split toe derbies in a medium brown embossed grain leather, made to the same extremely high standard as he’s known for.
