News - The return of the Edward Green Barton loafer

For fans of Edward Green, which there are many, there’s always enjoyment when old models found in the brand’s archives are revived. One such is the full strap penny loafer Barton, which hasn’t been made in decades, but is now brought back for a limited run by the Dutch store The Hand.

The Hand is a store based in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, which has been selling Edward Green for seven year’s now. They’ve done some special make-ups together before, but now they have gone deeper into the archives to bring back an old style. The Barton is a full strap loafer, or saddle loafer if one prefer to call it that, with a penny gap over the vamp, it has a hand stitched apron and a skin stitched split toe. It’s made on the 184 last, a traditional loafers last with a classic round toe.

For this revival they offer two different make-ups, one in Mink suede and one in Redwood antique calf, as pre-order with delivery in February. One can choose to have it unlined or lined. Only twenty pairs in total will be made, once the spots are taken they will close the pre-order. Price is similar to other models with hand stitched apron and split toe, at a bit above €1,700.
