The American heritage footwear company Red Wing reintroduces one of it’s most requested models – the slightly dressier Beckman boot. It’s made with a Gro-cord half rubber sole, and news is that they’ve switched from the often criticised, hard to break-in Featherstone leather to the softer Excalibur.
It’s not often that men’s footwear giant Allen Edmonds introduce new ranges of welted shoes, but this week the launched the new top line Reserve. Better leathers, a new last and some hand finishing details for this new American-made range which consists of four new models in different leather options.
The Swedish brand Myrqvist who offer Portugese-made welted footwear in the lower price segment has announced its opening of their first international store, on the famous shoe and menswear location Jermyn Street in London. The two-storey 100 square meters space will open the doors later this summer.
The British-based bespoke shoemaker William Efe Laborde now introduces a Made to Order service, with shoes made to exactly the same standard as his full bespoke, but on standard lasts available in two different toe shapes and in four widths. Initially an oxford and a derby are available as base models, and the leather options are spectacular, with among other things several vintage Freudenberg leathers.
One of the most well-known quality shoe companies in South America is Casa Fagliano from Argentina, world famous for their polo boots but who also produce a bunch of other types of footwear. Rodolfo Fagliano – the grand old man of the company – sadly passed away last week, at the age of 94.

The world’s largest shoe care brand, Kiwi, looks to be discontinued. According to several sources with insight, the multinational corporation SC Johnson will stop producing Kiwi products. Last year the fact that SCJ removed Kiwi from the UK market due to decreased sales made big headlines. Now, it appears that global sales are not good enough for the shoe care brand to have a future, at least not under SC Johnson ownership.
