On Saturday May 9, the London Super Trunk Show will be held for the eighth time, bringing together leading men’s shoe and menswear brands from around the world. Visitors can expect exhibitions from 13 companies, a free shoe shining service, several shorter stage sessions on shoes and shoe care, the finals of the world championships of shoe shining, shoe patina and shoemaking, and more. Last year I wrote about the news that the James Fayed, owner of the British shirt company Turnbull & Asser, bought a majority stake in the Northampton shoe manufacturer Tricker’s. Now merges between the two companies are announced, as Turnbull’s Creative Director Roberto Menichetti will take the same role at Tricker’s, and their footwear will be integrated into Turnbull & Asser’s retail network.
The ways to become a shoemaker has changed through the years, as education moved from the shoemaking firms who hunted for talents, to talents who are hunting for the possibility to learn shoemaking. Sort of. Hear bespoke shoemaker Sebastian Tarek with years of experience in teaching shoemaking at colleges and other places talk about the past, present and future of shoemaking education.
The British brand Crown Northampton is known for their quality sneakers that especially stands out due to the great materials they use throughout their shoes. Now they’ve launched the new model Ernest which is a really interesting sneaker with a specially designed upper and a unique construction that includes a hand welted seam and a handmade sole stitch.

The Northampton based shoe company Gaziano & Girling today announced that they have been awarded a Royal Warrant of Appointment, which basically means that they are an official supplier to the Royal family. A highly prestigious endorsement for sure.
The Super Trunk Show in London once again proved its position as a central meeting point for the world of quality men’s footwear. Throughout the day the venue was buzzing with activity, from the busy exhibitor floor to the three world championship finals, and countless conversations between makers, retailers, and shoe enthusiasts from across the globe.

Northampton Shoe Museum’s archive gathers some of the most amazing pieces of footwear in history, and especially unique is their collection of exhibition and contest shoes from the 1800’s. Shoegazing has been given exclusive access to photograph and share these remarkable footwear widely for the first time ever.
