The picture - 24K gold soles

A few years ago John Lobb Paris collaborated with a gold leaf specialist and created a bespoke sample which had the whole bottom covered in 24 karat gold leaf. I’ve shown them before, but they are certainly worth displaying again, both due to the lovely look and the skilled craftsmanship.

On top of the layer of gold leaf, the shoes are covered in a kind of Chinese furniture lacqeur, which keeps the gold well protected. Say what you want about the Hermès owned John Lobb Paris, but they are one of the best when it comes to doing special projects like these which gathers wide spread attention (which this small niche of the shoe world needs) and they are amazing at coming up with new interesting (and often copied) designs.
