Picture special – Melker Shoes bespoke Wellington boots

My latest acquisition is rather different from what I mostly wear, yet something rather intriguing, if you ask me. A pair of bespoke side seamed Wellington boots in Horween Chromexcel leather, where Swedish bespoke shoemaker Janne Melkersson of Melker Shoes & Boots have added a Scandinavian touch to a very traditional British model, and created a quite spectacular pair. Picture special – Catella Shoemaker austerity brogues

Catella Shoemaker is the brand of bespoke shoemaker Daniel Wegan, previously head of the bespoke department at Gaziano & Girling and world champion in shoemaking in 2019. This is my first pair from his own venture, and as expected they are made to a superb standard. Here’s loads of photos and a film of the shoes.

Picture special – Patrick Frei bespoke samples

Last year German bespoke shoemaker Patrick Frei and his new partner Kazuya Kimura were part of the Amsterdam Super Trunk Show, where they showcased some old but also a bunch of new samples. I showed a few images in the report from the event, but these shoes are so amazing that it would be a shame not to show more of them. Here’s a picture special to rectify this.

Picture special – Yohei Fukuda seamless wholecut

This week I received my sixth pair from the Japanese bespoke shoemaker Yohei Fukuda. A seamless wholecut in a stunning burgundy patina, which really enhances the magnificent shape of Fukuda’s chiseled last. Here’s lots of pictures plus a film showcasing the beauties.

Picture special – Catella Shoemaker

This week world champion in shoemaking 2019 and formerly Gaziano & Girling bespoke, Daniel Wegan, has his first trunk shows on home turf in Sweden with his new own brand Catella Shoemaker. Not that many pictures of the first samples have been available, here to rectify this is this picture special article going up close with these magnificent pieces of footwear.

Yesterday I received my third pair from the mythic Japanese bespoke shoemaker Eiji Murata, alias Main d’Or. Shoes made literally to perfection, incredible craftsmanship and finishing. Here’s loads of pictures of the masterpieces.

Picture special – New pair from Main d’Or

Main d’Or / Eiji Murata is one of the most highly regarded bespoke shoemakers in the world, which he not least proved when he placed third in the World Championships in Shoemaking this spring. I’m in Tokyo this week for the big shoe event at Isetan, and in conjunction with this, picked up a new pair from Eiji Murata, which is on display here.

This past Saturday the Moscow Trunk Show took place, I was there exhibiting with Skolyx and as a member of the jury in the Russian shoe shining and patina contests.
