This week we at Skolyx had world premiere for a new range of affordable workwear boots by the renowned Spanish brand Yanko. Service boots, moc toe boots and NST boots in various leathers, including Shell cordovan offerings.

At my everyday job for the Swedish shoe and shoe care retailer Skolyx, we have been working together with the Spanish brand Yanko to develop a new range of workwear boots. Skolyx has been a retailer of Yanko for many years, long before I started in the company. Yanko is one of the oldest still active classic shoe brands from Spain, founded in 1961. They were actually one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Goodyear welted shoes in the late 20th century, producing over a million pairs of shoes each year. Today they are much smaller, but have a solid reputation as an affordable manufacturer of everything from men’s dress shoes and boots to classic Belgian loafers. Looking at their old archive, one could find more rugged models in line with the new range, even if the models here are new for this collection.

Part of the collection is a version of the classic Service boot, it’s available in dark brown and medium brown pull-up leather from the Spanish tannery Combalia, a tannery located outside of Barcelona, who has tanned leather for more than 120 years. Pull-up leather is aniline dyed and then finished with waxes and oils for enhanced resistance, and when stretched it gets lighter coloured in these areas. Develops a really nice patina over time. There’s also a Service boot in burgundy Shell cordovan, this comes from the tannery Maryam, which many rate as the best cordovan tannery in Europe, based in Italy’s tannery centre Santa Croce next to the Arno river. There’s a Norwegian Stitched Toe, NST, boot in cognac cordovan, plus an NST in brown Repello gum oil suede from the British tannery Charles F. Stead, a durable suede treated with oil with a really nice depth in the shade. All these models above has studded Vibram rubber soles, which has a pro compared to Dainite in that it handles temperatures below 0 degrees celsius much better.

Finally there’s a moc toe boot, one version in the same brown Repello gum oil suede, and one version in the medium brown pull-up leather. These are equipped with lightweight XL Extralight wedge soles, really comfortable stuff. All these boots are Goodyear welted, fully leather lined (unlike many other workwear boots in this price segment), with leather board heel stiffeners. Price for the boots is €299, apart from the cordovan models which cost €525.
