The British second hand shoe store Abbot’s Shoes has brought in almost 50 pairs of factory seconds from Alfred Sargent, which they now have put up on their webshop available at nice prices. Also briefly about the fact that I’ll be a guest in Saphir’s monthly Youtube “shoe talk show” Shoelosophy on Sunday.
When Alfred Sargent went into liquidation last winter, fourth generation of the founding family, Paul Sargent, quickly announced that he was leading a project to restart it all under a new name. Now Paul Sargent Shoes has officially launched.
Many questions came up after the fact that the British shoe manufacturer Alfred Sargent have gone into liquidation went public. In this large open-hearted interview with Paul Sargent, part-owner and Factory Manager at the now closed company, you’ll get answers to most of them. The history of why the company ended up where they are, what will happen with the Alfred Sargent brand, and what will happen with the factory. Most importantly – this is not the end for the Rushden factory, Sargent will once again show that they are the phoenix bird of Northampton.
The famous British shoemaking firm Alfred Sargent has gone bust. After not being able to pay its debts and becoming insolvent, the company was put in what’s called “voluntary liquidation” two weeks ago. The fine company out of Rushden, Northampton, have been in big troubles and managed to climb back again before, but this is their toughest situation yet.
Once again time for a review of my shoe collection at its current state – one of the most asked for articles from readers. This time it’s 30 pairs of shoes shown in lots of pictures and some text.

Time for a new review of my shoe collection as it looks right now. Quite a lot has happened over the last two years since I last had time to do this type of post, although the amount is the same: 23 pairs in total.
The toe spring, how much the toe tip is raised from the ground, can actually be tweaked by using different types of shoe trees. For example, if you want to have a lower toe spring, use a tree with a flat bottom towards the toe that push the toe down when inserted. With time, the toe spring of the shoes will be lowered.
Every year I go through my shoe collection, as it looks at present time. A lot of lovely shades of brown, and one black model. 23 pairs in total, but several pairs will be sold of due to foot issues I have, more about that further down in the article.
A while back I bought this pair of Alfred Sargent Handgrade Benson to a very cheap price on Ebay. A shoe from a not too big brand like AS which looks really beaten up doesn’t go for much. But withs some simple true love and care they came out looking real nice again. Here’s a series of photos showing of the difference.
