In most stores selling classic men’s shoes nowadays, the formal options have been more and more replaced by more casual models, sneakers, light loafers and so on. That’s why it’s nice to visit some shoe stores in the London business districts where still various black oxfords and other more formal footwear are in clear majority on the shelves.
This year we’ll have a Swiss, a Japanese and a Brit in the shoe shining contest, and one from the US and two from France in the patina competition. These are the finalists of the world champs contests taking place during the London Super Trunk Show on May 13. See their submissions here.
On Saturday May 13 it’s back – one of the world’s largest open event on quality shoes, The London Super Trunk Show, organised by Shoegazing and The Shoe Snob. In the middle of London on 12 Regent Street, we gather 11 brands from all over the world, partners exhibit, there will be the World Championships of Shoe Shining and Shoe Patina, plus the World Championships of Shoemaking have its award ceremony and competition shoes displayed, and for the first time we have a second hand shoe marketplace on site.
We now open the qualifications to the finals of the World Championships of Shoe Shining and the World Championships of Shoe Patina 2023, two prestigious contests organised together with Saphir. Finals take place at the London Super Trunk Show on Saturday May 13. The patina finalists will paint their shoes during the whole event, and the shoe shiners have 20 minutes to shine a shoe as lovely looking as they possibly can.

It was three years since, but the past weekend it was finally time for the Stockholm edition of the super trunk shows again. Six shoe companies and three partners exhibited, lots of shoe shining happenings including the Swedish champs, second hand marketplace and much more. Here’s a summary of the day with loads of photos.
Finally time for super trunk in Stockholm again, on Saturday 24 September. Six shoe exhibitors from different parts of the world, plus three partners exhibiting. Also featuring, among other things, Swedish Championships of Shoe Shining, spit shine shine workshop, free shoe shine service and of course Shoegazing Market – the second hand marketplace for selling and buying quality second hand shoes.
This June the summer edition of the men’s fashion fair Pitti Uomo took place in Florence, the first proper one since the pandemic hit. Shoegazing was there and checked out a bunch of the shoe exhibitors, here’s a summary of what could be found and some news from talks with brand representatives, who witness on the positive trend the quality footwear sector is seeing.
