Last weekend the first Amsterdam Super Trunk Show took place. A great day with more than 300 visitors and shoes from all over the world showcased, together with shoe care, clothing, watches and perfumes. Here’s a summary in text and lots of pics from the day. Also, briefly about the fact that the London Super Trunk Show has been postponed until October 10.
Usually when I do these picture specials it’s with a new pair I got it from some famous bespoke shoemaker, but thought it might be fun to show off my latest TLB Mallorca Artista pair a bit closer, and get to share some detail pictures on the rather special features you find on those that are highly unusual on Goodyear welted shoes in the midrange price segment.
It’s a real pleasure to invite you all to the first Amsterdam Super Trunk Show. A bunch of shoe brands from all over the world, partners and other interesting menswear exhibitors, plus the first Dutch Championships in Shoe Shining, all taking place at Cristofori Concert Hall of the Playing Circle, in the central parts of Amsterdam, on Saturday March 7. Of course we’ll have a super trunk in Stockholm, Sweden, this autumn, on Saturday September 29 the sixth edition will take place. A lot of new stuff on the exhibition floor this year, CNES Shoemaker, Sons of Henrey, Zeb Shoes and Skomaker Dagestad with among others Miyagi Kogyo and Foster & Son RTW, plus the old fox Skolyx (Skolyx/Yanko/TLB Mallorca) and Gaziano & Girling. Also the Swedish Championships in Shoe Shining, a mini course on how to recolour shoes, shoe patina painting live, and the return of last year’s success Shoegazing Market – a second hand marketplace where you can sell and buy used shoes.
In the work with developing TLB Mallorca’s new top range Artista, which I was involved in, the main challenge was probably to get to the very narrow waist we were looking for. That is why I’m so pleased with a picture as this above that shows how well it succeeded.

Artista is a new top range from the Spanish brand TLB Mallorca, a range that I’ve been involved in developing, through my work for their retailer Skolyx. It’s an ambition at bringing some features taken from bespoke shoes into the midrange price segment of Goodyear welted shoes, offering a lot for the €425 they cost. Here’s a report about this project, now about to launch.
We now open up the qualification to the finals of the World Championships in Shoe Shining and the first World Championships in Shoe Patina, both contests organised together with Saphir. Finals take place at the London Super Trunk Show on March 23. The patina finalists will paint their shoes during the whole event, and the shoe shiners have 20 minutes to shine one shoe as beautiful as possible.
It’s a pleasure to introduce this year’s edition of the world’s largest open event for classic shoes, the London Super Trunk Show, organised by Shoegazing and The Shoe Snob. On Saturday March 23, literally in the heart of London at a new venue on 12 Regent Street, we gather more than 10 brands from all over the world, interesting partners, there will be the World Championships in Shoe Shining and for the first time Shoe Patina, plus the World Championships in Shoemaking will have it’s award ceremony and competition shoes displayed. The five-year anniversary of the Shoegazing Super Trunk Show in Stockholm showed that the interest in classic shoes is still high in the country, when around 800 visitors showed up and bought about 100 pairs of shoes worth about €40,000 (where many more orders are added after the event) . Soon it’s time for another great event in Stockholm, when the fifth edition of the Shoegazing Super Trunk Show will take place on Saturday September 29th. On the exhibition floor this year you will find Skolyx (Skolyx/Yanko/TLB), Vass, Japan Shoes Export Platform (Miyagi Kogyo/Matsumoto/Kiten), Heinrich Dinkelacker, Jan Kielman and Gaziano & Girling. In addition there will be the Swedish Championships in Shoe Shining, seminar about the fit of shoes, and the new Shoegazing Market – a second hand marketplace for second hand quality shoes.
