This is a photo from the finishing department at the Crockett & Jones factory in Northampton, where the factory worker is going over the final details. One of the strengths, in general, of the British shoemaking factories is the very solid, even quality level, which certainly isn’t the easiest to achieve.
This is something that goes for just about anything that we do in life. To produce something good is difficult, but to do it over and over and over again is very difficult. This goes for shoes, this goes for cars, this goes for articles on a shoe blog…I sure know. In Northampton the solid level of make is one important reason for their popularity – no matter if you buy from entry level brands or from the premium ones.
