Every now and then you stumble over shoe models which you just don’t understand why they aren’t more common. This vintage balmoral split toe derby is one such model, made some 50 years ago by the American company Hanover, part of their premium LB Sheppard Signature range.
Maybe balmoral split toe derby isn’t a perfect name, given it’s the vamp seam that’s extended, in a way it’s a merge of a longwing and a split toe derby, or something. Either way, the model looks really balanced and could be made in versions with fully machine stitched uppers as here, or in versions with hand stitched split toe and / or balmoral seam. Yet it’s a rare style of shoe. This Hanover pair is found at the vintage shoe store Super 8 Shoes based in Tokyo, Japan.

Very very nice Jasper, I can imagine it in rough out suede or some other oiled leather, an absolute winner.
Thank you
Juan Manuel: Yeah, sounds nice indeed!
