Guide – My shoe collection 5
Time for a new review of my shoe collection as it looks right now. Quite a lot has happened over the last two years since I last had time to do this type of post, although the amount is the same: 23 pairs in total.

We are very happy to once again invite you to the world’s largest open event for classic shoes, the London Super Trunk Show, organized by Shoegazing and The Shoe Snob. In the middle of London on Saturday April 7 we gather more than 10 brands from all over the world, interesting partners, there will be the World Championships in Shoe Shining, and the first World Championships in Shoemaking will have it’s award ceremony and competition shoes displayed. Below all info about the event.
This week I received my fourth bespoke pair from Japanese Yohei Fukuda. A pair of adelaides with a floating toe medallion in a beautiful nougat brown shade. Here are the very well-made shoes shown in a large number of pictures, where the craftsmanship can be studied up-close.
For shoe manufacturers, both the big factories and small one-man operations, it is a constant pursuit of good upper leather. When you come across good material, therefore, there are many who accumulate extra, in order to “have for the future”, and it is often a pleasure to look around in the shelves with leathers. And most fuzz gets nice old vintage skins.
Another super trunk has passed, and once again we are very happy with the day. Over 700 people visited the event, over 100 pairs of shoes were bought for a value of about €35 000 (and many more orders placed the following days). Here’s a summary of the day in text and picture.
Today the new Swedish initiative The Sabot was launched, an online store with a very interesting selection of shoes. Their own Private Label brand is manufactured by Antonio Meccariello, his Argentum range, Andrés Sendra and also Japanese Yohei Fukuda’s RTW shoes.
We now present the final exhibitor at the London Super Trunk Show this coming Saturday May 13. It’s a Swedish based online retailer named The Sabot, selling their own brand, Antonio Meccariello and the all-new RTW range from the Japanese Yohei Fukuda, who also will come to the event. Visitors will have an exclusive opportunity to buy and order their offerings ahead of the actual store opening in a few weeks.
Japan currently has the world’s largest selection of classic men’s shoes on the market, and have in 15 years gone from having just a couple of bespoke shoemakers in the country to over 50. Suddenly it’s not the British, the Italians or the French that drive the development in terms of quality and craftsmanship, but the Japanese – and Yohei Fukuda is one of the standard-bearers.
Just like the fact that good machines are extremely important for shoe factories are good tools of great importance for the bespoke shoemakers. Tools of high quality makes the work more easy, and in some cases the tools are crucial to how well an operation can be performed.
For the fifth consecutive year (counting in the Swedish site, only second time on this English page), it’s time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, as customary with a Christmas theme picture, this time on my last pair from the Japanese Yohei Fukuda.
