Report Amsterdam super trunk

The second super trunk show in Amsterdam took place earlier in October, a bunch of great shoe brands and style exhibitors was gathered in the lovely Vondelkerk – which became the church of shoes for one day. Get a feel for the event in this report housing both a film and loads of great photos from the day.

We first have to talk about the real star of the day – the venue! Right next to the Vondelpark, which is sort of the Central Park of Amsterdam, the neo-gothic church Vondelkerk thrones. Built in 1872, its dramatic architecture and beautiful decorations create a wonderful atmosphere for an events, where the incomes from is used to preserve and save the church for the future. As a shoe lover, the fact that we can host a shoe event like this in a sacred place like a church just feels…right!

Shoegazing is part of organising the Amsterdam Super Trunk Show, but the main host here is the Shoecare Shop with Bas van Exter. They also exhibit a wide range of their shoe care products at the event, along with loads of stuff from the main partner Saphir Medaille d’Or and the dutch agent Dumco. Similar to the Stockholm event a week earlier, things were a bit calmer than the previous edition, likely also here a lot due to peoples nervousness around recession and the energy crisis. But still a lot of people came through the doors, and both them and exhibitors had a great day.

On the exhibition floor event partner The Hand had a large space showcasing all their brands in one section, and the other shoe, clothing and accessories exhibitors was spread around the large main space. Here exhibitors are even more varied than in London and Stockholm, with both local and international shoe companies, and everything from tailors and shoe patina artists to a perfume company.

In one corner we had the stage area, where the Dutch Championships of Shoe Shining took place. Finalists were Selwyn Lau, Neil McKenzie, and the previous winner Theo Frijn, where the latter managed to defend his title. During the 20 minutes he shined his Loake Aldwych shoe the best with the Saphir products, a really great end result.

Thanks to everyone who participated in various ways, we already look forward to the next edition of the super trunk in Amsterdam!
