Artista is a new top range from the Spanish brand TLB Mallorca, a range that I’ve been involved in developing, through my work for their retailer Skolyx. It’s an ambition at bringing some features taken from bespoke shoes into the midrange price segment of Goodyear welted shoes, offering a lot for the €425 they cost. Here’s a report about this project, now about to launch.
Earlier this week the Belgian-Spanish brand Sons of Henrey was launched, focusing on elegant classic Goodyear-welted shoes, offering a variety of interesting leather choices, mainly through coming Group MTOs.
Leading Swedish men’s shoe store Skoaktiebolaget today announces its own brand: Löf & Tung. Goodyear welted in Spain in the mid-range around €350, with a very flexible MTO service.

In the middle of London on Saturday April 7 we gather more than 10 brands from all over the world, interesting partners, there will be the World Championships in Shoe Shining, and the first World Championships in Shoemaking will have it’s award ceremony and competition shoes displayed. We are pleased to present this year’s edition of the Shoegazing Super Trunk Show in Stockholm Saturday September 2. This year we focus a bit more on Swedish online companies, the line-up will be Myrqvist (Herrstil), Yanko (Skolyx), The Sabot (also with Andrés Sendra, Antonio Meccariello and Yohei Fukuda), Jan Kielman and Hiro Yanagimachi. Plus Swedish Championships in Shoe Shining, shoe care workshop and an open Q&A with people from the shoe industry.
I have visited quite a few factories that produce Goodyear welted shoes, and although it’s often nice places, it always strikes me that they are relatively small factories, much smaller than many might think. In the Crockett & Jones factory in Northampton, on the other hand, I’m almost overwhelmed by the large, well-trimmed production.
The first London Super Trunk Show was successfully held this Saturday, with around 800 visitors and shoes sold or purchased for about €62 000/£53 000. It was a great atmosphere during the day, and both exhibitors, partners and visitors was very pleased. Here’s a summary of the day with a lot of pictures.
The old venerable brand Wildsmith went to the tomb in the early 2000, but was revived again under among others Chay Cooper’s wings in 2013. When he was recruited to Crockett & Jones the other year Wildsmith once again went dormant, until now, when the famous British online store Herring Shoes takes over the ownership.
