Stage happenings are a given part of a super trunk.

The Super Trunk Show events finally reaches Asia. This after starting off in Stockholm, Sweden, back in 2014 and then been held in Amsterdam, London and New York (of those we still do the big ones in London and New York), and also inspired a number of other great similar type of events. The core of a super trunk show is the exhibition with shoe, shoe care and menswear brands from around the globe being gathered, most of which are not easily available on the location, but often with some local representation as well. A bit like a small trade fair in a way, but open for the public, for the end consumer. To this we’ve then always had one or several exciting contests, always in shoe shining and in cases in shoemaking and shoe patina (nowadays only in London), plus a mix of other happenings on stage or around the exhibition space. They’ve also become great meeting places for people of the industry and shoe interested.

It’s a pleasure to now host the first Singapore Super Trunk Show, an event organised by Jesper Ingevaldsson of Shoegazing, Justin FitzPatrick of The Shoe Snob blog and Kirby Allison. In Singapore we’ve also had invaluable assistance by the locals of CNES Singapore. Asia is one of the regions we’re making quality footwear has boomed the most the past decade, both dress shoes and more rugged boots, and we’ve also seen a bunch of great new tailoring firms and other menswear related companies. Quality price ratio is very high, in general. Focus has been on gathering Asian companies here, but we also have a few European ones.

The event takes place at the Warehouse on River Promenade, on 5 Jiak Kim Street in central Singapore. It’s a great one floor event space which has a restaurant and a serviced apartments in the same buildings. We have one large exhibition space which you enter into, and if you continue in we’ll have a sort of lounge area where Old Moon Spirits will serve free Japanese Shochu and Awamori both on the rocks and in cocktails, and That One Coffee will sell coffee and tea. Then in the back we have two rooms connected to each other, we’re we’ll have a small stage area with a series of shorter presentations / talks around various shoe topics every full hour (see above), and in the inner room Saphir together with Ash Samsudin of Metiers Sol will host shoe care workshops throughout the day were visitors can take care of their own shoes with products from Saphir, and get help and guidance from Ash. More info on this and registration here.

The main stage happening is the first Asian Championships of Shoe Shining, organised in collaboration with Saphir and Bridlen, at 15.00 in the afternoon. For this we will convert the lounge area in the main room into a stage area, so that we can handle a potentially bigger crowd. Three finalists who have made it through the qualifications will have a Bridlen plain cap toe oxford in medium brown, a can of Saphir Medaille d’Or Pate de Lux and one can of Mirror Gloss, water, brush and polishing cloth, and then in just 20 minutes shine the shoe as lovely as possible. In the prize pool is the shoes shined, shoe care products, medals and 800 USD (1,000 SGD), given by Saphir. This will be live streamed on Shogazing’s YouTube channel, and later a more proper coverage of the contest will be up on Kirby Allison’s YouTube. The finalists will be announced shortly.

The first Asian shoe shoe shining champion will be appointed.

Since then, the range has steadily grown into one of the most comprehensive selections on the market. The Medaille d’Or line, in particular, has become the standard against which all other shoe care brands are measured.

Saphir
