Hear bespoke shoemaker Daniel Wegan talk about dedication, which took him to the bespoke department of Gaziano & Girling, made him the head of the same department, and this year he won the World Championships in Shoemaking. He also gives a bunch of advice to aspiring shoemakers.
If you visit shoe factories today, it varies greatly between older and more modern machinery parks, not infrequently also within each factory. However, it’s not very common to use as old machines as the one in the picture above. This lasting machine dates from the first half of the 20th century, and is located in Gaziano & Girlings factory in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
Today the British premium brand Gaziano & Girling launched a brand new range: Classic. With more traditional last shapes and models and slightly less worked waists and other modifications, they step down a bit in price and open up for new customers.
It’s a pleasure to introduce this year’s edition of the world’s largest open event for classic shoes, the London Super Trunk Show, organised by Shoegazing and The Shoe Snob. On Saturday March 23, literally in the heart of London at a new venue on 12 Regent Street, we gather more than 10 brands from all over the world, interesting partners, there will be the World Championships in Shoe Shining and for the first time Shoe Patina, plus the World Championships in Shoemaking will have it’s award ceremony and competition shoes displayed. The five-year anniversary of the Shoegazing Super Trunk Show in Stockholm showed that the interest in classic shoes is still high in the country, when around 800 visitors showed up and bought about 100 pairs of shoes worth about €40,000 (where many more orders are added after the event) . Here is a report of the event of last weekend.

Time for a new review of my shoe collection as it looks right now. Quite a lot has happened over the last two years since I last had time to do this type of post, although the amount is the same: 23 pairs in total.
Soon it’s time for another great event in Stockholm, when the fifth edition of the Shoegazing Super Trunk Show will take place on Saturday September 29th. On the exhibition floor this year you will find Skolyx (Skolyx/Yanko/TLB), Vass, Japan Shoes Export Platform (Miyagi Kogyo/Matsumoto/Kiten), Heinrich Dinkelacker, Jan Kielman and Gaziano & Girling. In addition there will be the Swedish Championships in Shoe Shining, seminar about the fit of shoes, and the new Shoegazing Market – a second hand marketplace for second hand quality shoes.
The first world champion in shoemaking was appointed this weekend, with Patrick Frei from Germany winning the title, ahead of Daniel Wegan in 2nd and Philippe Atienza in 3rd. Here’s a closer look at the winning shoe in some stunning pictures, plus a couple of the runner up shoes.
The first London Super Trunk Show was successfully held this Saturday, with around 800 visitors and shoes sold or purchased for about €62 000/£53 000. It was a great atmosphere during the day, and both exhibitors, partners and visitors was very pleased. Here’s a summary of the day with a lot of pictures.
