The famous Swedish shoe store Skoaktiebolaget will be closing their brick and mortar shop at the end of February, after being an important player in Scandinavia and internationally ever since they opened a decade ago. Now they will be an online store only with a much more limited offering. This will mean a big sale starts in store on Tuesday January 25 to clear a lot of the stock.
The Swedish web store Pete & Harry are selling about 200 pairs of mainly Crockett & Jones and also some Loake shoes at heavily discounted prices, all at between 50-80% off, and plenty of regular sizes left. The C&J shoes are from Sweden’s largest retailer of the brand who went bankrupt a couple of weeks ago.
My latest acquisition is rather different from what I mostly wear, yet something rather intriguing, if you ask me. A pair of bespoke side seamed Wellington boots in Horween Chromexcel leather, where Swedish bespoke shoemaker Janne Melkersson of Melker Shoes & Boots have added a Scandinavian touch to a very traditional British model, and created a quite spectacular pair. Catella Shoemaker is the brand of bespoke shoemaker Daniel Wegan, previously head of the bespoke department at Gaziano & Girling and world champion in shoemaking in 2019. This is my first pair from his own venture, and as expected they are made to a superb standard. Here’s loads of photos and a film of the shoes.

After ten years at Gaziano & Girling, Swedish bespoke shoemaker Daniel Wegan left the company this autumn to start his own brand. This spring, Catella Shoemaker is launched, where the reigning world champion in shoemaking can fully develop his vision of the perfect bespoke shoes.
Of course we’ll have a super trunk in Stockholm, Sweden, this autumn, on Saturday September 29 the sixth edition will take place. A lot of new stuff on the exhibition floor this year, CNES Shoemaker, Sons of Henrey, Zeb Shoes and Skomaker Dagestad with among others Miyagi Kogyo and Foster & Son RTW, plus the old fox Skolyx (Skolyx/Yanko/TLB Mallorca) and Gaziano & Girling. Also the Swedish Championships in Shoe Shining, a mini course on how to recolour shoes, shoe patina painting live, and the return of last year’s success Shoegazing Market – a second hand marketplace where you can sell and buy used shoes.
A new Swedish based online store for welted shoes has seen the light of day – The Noble Shoe. Here they take over the baton from Skoaktiebolaget and sell mainly shoes from Portuguese Carlos Santos, and they also offer affordable Made to Measure in collaboration with Croatian Zeb Shoes.
I’ve had quite a few pairs of bespoke shoes made and have gotten to see my feet interpreted into lasts by a number of bespoke shoemakers, and it’s always as fascinated to hold these pieces of wood and realise how your feet actually are shaped, more or less.
A good sale is always appreciated by you readers, and one of these started at Skoaktiebolaget today, with lots of models from all their brands reduced by between 20-30 percent in most cases. Among other things, everything remaining from Carlos Santos and Paolo Scafora, since they will stop carrying those brands.
